The Green Tourism project came from a need to link two existing site’s information; Strangford Lough and Mourne Mountains, whilst adding new data from the Green Tourism accreditations being granted to businesses across County Down. An app was proposed to be a way-finding / travel tool for tourists concerned with conserving this beautiful corner of the world. It also gave business in the area a great platform to tell people about their efforts for free.
The app had to be flexible, responsive at many breakpoints. The JSON feed that we were provided was user generated and inconsistent. While designing the content pages I had to be mindful of this and have found the whole process, getting down to the back-end functionality enjoyable.
The team were tasked with creating the app, a Facebook campaign, a campaign landing page and a promotional email; I was in charge of designing the app. Working closely with the app developer and digital project manager to create a seamless process, accessible offline to cover those areas which had poor 3G reception; whilst the rest of the team created the supporting materials. It was my responsibility to set up the Google Play and App Store accounts for The Lane and provide the assets to the developers to ensure we came as close to the initial design as possible and test the various releases across devices and flag any errors.
